2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Review

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is officially faster than the 2018 Bugatti Chiron. It has the best acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h. The official competition rules for the street drag racing for cars from the same production range say that the distance of 400 meters must not be finished in less than 9.99 seconds. Also, their maximum speed does not exceed 135 mph.

Well, there’s a problem, because the Dodge SRT Demon has exceeded both limits and is therefore banned from drag-racing competition. It passed 400 meters in 9.65 seconds, and the final speed he achieved at that moment was over 140 miles an hour.

Dodge SRT Demon Top Speed, 0-60 mph

As the fastest production car, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon left behind the 2018 Bugatti Chiron, which is powered by a 1,500-hp engine. Chiron can reach the speed of 60 mph from the point of rest in 2.5 seconds, while the SRT Demon can achieve that in just 2.3 seconds. And it is powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that can produce “only” 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque.

When moving from the point of rest, a G-force of 1.8G is achieved, and this initial acceleration even manages to lift the front wheels. This makes the Demon the best Dodge so far, it became even more. To improve cooling, the air conditioning system distributes the cool air to the supercharged engine. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Another piece of information that you may find interesting: This is the first serial vehicle which you can fill up with over 100 octane race gasoline to the fullest. But first, you will have to add an optional $1 engine control module for high-octane race fuel calibration. Of course, it can also run on premium unleaded fuel.

Exterior and Interior Design, Extras

Visually, it is quite similar to the Hellcat. In fact, the two cars are so similar that someone would not be able to distinguish them. Just look at the photo below. However, if you look closely, you will notice the much wider hood scoop on the Demon, and slightly updated front splitter. There are black Demon head badges on both sides.

Demon vs Hellcat

As for the interior, there is only one seat inside the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. However, for just $1, you can install additional front passenger seat, as well as rear bench, with luxury Laguna leather or Alcantara cloth upholstery. Also, you can add a carpet kit for the trunk, new air filter, cordless impact wrench, hydraulic jack, tire pressure gauge, etc. The car is quite expensive (more on that later), so we believe that these $1 additions are already included in the final price.

Of course, there are also more expensive accessories, such as the $1595 Leather Front Seat Group, which include leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, heating and ventilation. Next, the $995 Comfort Audio Group adds new floor mats and pedals, as well as the 18-speaker audio system with 900-watt amp and two subwoofers. You can also add a sunroof for $4995 and the Black Satin Hood finish for $1995.

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Price Tag

Given all that impressive power and extra accessories, it’s no wonder that the Dodge Demon brings a price tag of $84,995, making it more expensive than the Hellcat, which is priced at $62,495. The price includes a $1,700 taxes, but doesn’t include delivery fees.

And what about its Release Date?

Dodge will produce a total of 3300 units of the Demon; 3000 units for the United States and 300 units for Canada. This beast of the muscle car will be released this fall.

Here are the first impressions of Jake Holmes, Senior Editor at Motor1. He gets behind the wheel of this powerful muscle car to smoke some tires and see how close he can get to that mythical 9.65 second quarter-mile time.

Update: An Upgrade by Hennessey

If you think that 840 horsepower is not enough for the muscle car, we have some good news for you. Hennessey, an American tuner, announced that they are going to bring an upgrade package to the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. The package will boost its power to the stunning 1500 horsepower, making it even more powerful than the 2017 Pontiac Trans Am 455 Super Duty.

According to their website, this upgrade will include the new supercharger systems, engine tuning, new headers, NHRA legal roll cage, and even parachute upgrade (Say what?!).
