The 2018 Bentley Continental GT is the latest model in the popular lineup which is present on the market since 2003. Although it received an update back in 2011, it still retained the look and feel of the old model. After the launch of the 2015 EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept, things have started to change, and the word about the all-new, next-generation model for the 2018 model year will appear. Well, it was officially unveiled at the at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Let’s start with what has been changed in the new Continental. At first it appeared that the company is going to keep the not so fuel efficient V-8 engine. However, it has been replaced by the Bentayga’s W-12 unit.
Next, the 2018 Bentley Continental GT is based on the new platform instead of the old D1, which is now about 30 years old. The new platform is made mostly out of carbon fiber and aluminum, reducing the car’s weight below 2000 kilograms. This allows the car to be lighter, faster, more fuel efficient, as well as more comfortable.

Outside, the 2018 Bentley Continental GT is mostly based on the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept, which was gorgeous, with some minor alterations that make it sportier, more sculpted and more dynamic. Its aluminum body is also lower and longer. We could say that its design evolved from the concept’s design.
The new Continental has sharp body lines, its hood is longer, the grille is slightly bigger, the headlights are now full LED (matrix lighting), while the taillights are in the shape of ellipses and mimic oval exhausts below them. All these changes make it a viable option against the new 2018 Aston Martin DB 11 Volante and Porsche 911 GT3.
Customization is also really important, so customers have the option to choose between 17 base body paint colors and 15 different appearances inside.
Given that the 2018 Bentley Continental GT is now longer, there is also more passenger space. The 12-way adjustable front seats are very comfortable and feature two memory settings. They are covered in high quality hand-stitched leather.
The interior doesn’t have any type of plastic elements, but rather only a mix of leather, chrome and wood elements. The dashboard stretches all the way from the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen in the center to the door panels. One interesting thing is that this 12.3-inch digital screen is part of Bentley Rotating Display, a rotating three-sided unit, which you can rotate to hide the touchscreen, and instead show a more classic instrument style with three analogue dials, or hide both of them completely behind wood veneer.
The touchscreen is complemented by another digital display behind the multifunction steering wheel, representing Bentley’s forward-looking approach to technology. Even when you hide the central touchscreen, all essential information is visible in this smaller digital gauge cluster. It is filled with various intelligent driver assistance features.
Bentley offers several variants of the sound system to choose from. The standard one comes with ten 650W speakers. Bang & Olufsen system features 16 speakers and 14-channel 1500W amplifier, four DSP sound modes, and Beo Sonic control interface. The last option include a 21-channel 2200W Naim audio system with 18 speakers, which comes with two Active Bass Transducers built into the front seats, and eight DSP sound modes.
We have already mentioned that the 2018 Bentley Continental GT has a 6.0-liter W-12 engine. This unit produces 626 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, and is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive system. The W-12 engine can deactivate half of its cylinders if needed to reduce fuel.
The coupe can achieve the top speed of 207 miles per hour, and reach 62 mph (100 km/h) from the point of rest in about 3.7 seconds. It features Bentley Dynamic Ride with different drive modes, which uses a 48-volt anti-roll control system integrated into its suspension to help keep body roll and improve ride and handling. For example, as the car enters a corner, it engages automatically, continuously adjusting the anti-roll bars. On rougher road surfaces, it constantly monitors the suspension settings and adapts accordingly.
As for its launch, we hope that the 2018 Bentley Continental GT will be available early next year. Pricing will also be announced as we get closer to the release date.
