The 2020 Honda Pilot is a midsize SUV with third row seating. It comes in the standard Honda classes of LX, EX, and EX-L but also offers a Touring, Elite, and Black edition. The LX is the base model while the EX-L is the most luxurious of the standard models. The Touring, Elite, and Black edition offer more extensive features pertaining to looks and comfort of the vehicle. As with any car model, the 2020 Honda Pilot does increase in pricing as the trim packages increase, which will be discussed at the end.
While the exterior has not changed significantly, there are some extra options available for certain models. Only the EX-L and the Touring come with a sunroof. The Elite and Black edition come with a panoramic sunroof. The Touring addition also comes with roof rails. Any of these features can be added to any model like in any previous Honda models trims. All of the models can come in a variety of colors except the Black edition. It specifically comes in black with exterior accents to compliment the red interior.
The standard models of the Honda are equipped to seat eight people. The third-row seating is rather narrow, as the Pilot is only a midsize SUV. The Touring model can seat eight or seven, as there is a choice of adding rear captain’s chairs. The Elite and Black edition come standard with the captain’s chairs and only seat seven. Honda has stepped up their game with interior features. Even on the base LX model, a seven-speaker audio system and a five-inch display screen come standard. Power and heated seats, Apple Carplay, heated steering wheel, and even a Wi-Fi hot spot are all features that can be customized on your 2020 Honda Pilot.
With technology advancing, Honda has implemented more safety features on the 2020 Pilot. Lane keep assist, front collision warning with automatic braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control and automatic high-beam assist are all standard on every 2020 Honda Pilot model. The EX and EX-L adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross traffic alerts. With the Touring, Elite, and Black edition, front and rear parking sensors are added. Consumers do say that the adaptive cruise control and collision warning are very sensitive. The standard models are equipped with front wheel drive while the Elite and Black edition are standard with all-wheel drive. However, all-wheel drive is an option on any model.
All Honda Pilot models have a 3.5L V6 with a six-speed automatic transmission. However, the Touring, Elite, and Black edition come with a nine-speed transmission. Some consumers have stated that the nine-speed transmission is a little rough shifting in the lower gears and would prefer the six speed. The engine offers 280 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft of torque.
As with any vehicle, the more features means the higher the price. The 2020 Honda Pilot LX model starts at around $31,500. The EX goes up to $34,500 and EX-L starts at around $37,900. These prices are based on the standard front wheel drive option. The Touring, Elite, and Black Edition all range between $42,000 to $49,000. All in all, you get what you pay for.
